Our Work in East Africa

In East Africa, the Resurgence Network for Human Rights works directly with communities, advocates, and legal systems to promote justice, defend human rights, and empower marginalized voices. We focus on building long-term capacity and local leadership through the following initiatives:

Human Rights Defenders Support Program

We offer legal aid, emergency support, and international advocacy for journalists, lawyers, and activists under threat across Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, and Tanzania.

Justice & Legal Empowerment Clinics

Our mobile legal clinics and community forums empower people to understand and defend their rights under local and international law.

Truth & Testimony Project

We document and publish stories of repression, police brutality, torture, and violations of civic space, amplifying the voices of the oppressed.

Youth & Leadership Training

We train young leaders in nonviolence, civic engagement, digital security, and advocacy across East Africa, equipping them to lead positive change.

Refugee Rights & Safe Return Campaigns

We work with displaced communities, especially Rwandans and South Sudanese, to demand safe, voluntary return and end statelessness and forced repatriation.

Strategic Litigation & Advocacy

We pursue impact litigation on laws and practices that restrict freedom of expression, association, and assembly across the region.
