📢 Call to Action: Justice for Victoire Ingabire
Demand Justice. Defend the Right to Legal Representation.
Victoire Ingabire, a peaceful political leader and human rights defender, is once again behind bars in Rwanda—facing politically motivated charges. Her only request? The right to be defended by a lawyer of her own choice—a basic right under both Rwandan law and international human rights standards.
Despite her formal request to be represented by a Kenyan lawyer, the Rwanda Bar Association has failed to respond. Her current counsel, already overwhelmed representing multiple party members facing similar charges, struggles to prepare her defense as authorities continue to confiscate her laptop and phone.
This is not just about one woman. This is about:
- Freedom of expression
- Political participation
- Rule of law and fair trial rights
We urgently call on:
- The Rwanda Bar Association to immediately authorize Victoire’s Kenyan lawyer.
- The Rwandan Judiciary to guarantee a fair, transparent trial.
- The East African Community to enforce regional legal cooperation agreements.
- The international human rights community to monitor this case and speak out against judicial harassment.
